Harlow is 70 – Events

Some fantastic events have taken place so far – notably the U3A ’70 Not Out!’ event held in Paringdon last week, which showcased lots of work undertaken by U3A groups for Harlow’s 70th celebrations from creative writing to flower arranging. A beautiful scrap book made by local U3A members is now touring some of the planned events for this year.

Classic Scooter Ride Out and Fun Day

The Vespa Club Of Britain Branch 131 – The Hertfordshire and Essex Highwaymen present a Classic Scooter Ride Out and Fun Day in association with Harlow Is 70, celebrating 70 years of Harlow New Town. The ride out is not exclusive to Branch 131 members – other local scooter groups and solo riders are welcome. On Saturday 22 July The ride will start 12pm at The Link, Parsloe Road (Harlow) and end at Burnt Mill Academy (Harlow) at approx 1pm. The full route, along with a map and suggested spectator spots will be published soon.

From 1pm – 5pm they will be hosting a family fun day at Burnt Mill Academy with special guest DJs, live bands, stalls, food and a licensed bar. Confirmed acts – The Chords UK (Feat. Chris Pope). If you would like to run a stall (Scooter Parts / Clothes / Records etc) please get in touch with Adam Smith –   This event is being supported by Burnt Mill Academy, Harlow Council, The Greyhound, Black Wax and in co-operation with Essex Police.

History talks
David Devine has provided talks to over 550 people since February, with several more pre-booked talks to take place during the year. The funding for these talks through the Harlow is 70 funds, is now complete although David has continued to take bookings himself

Funding for events
The Council has provided over £10k in funding to 33 community groups towards activities and events for this year’s celebrations. Please note that this funding stream has now closed.
