Harlow is 70

Work has been taking place to look at what the Council will do to celebrate the Harlow’s 70th birthday next year. It was on the 25 March 1947 that Harlow was officially designated a new town, and we aim to use the occasion to promote Harlow, its places and its people, and to get the community together to celebrate this occasion.  This will also provide an opportunity to look forward to the town’s future.  Not only will 2017 be Harlow’s 70th birthday but it will also be Harlow Town Park’s 60th birthday so both of these milestones will be celebrated next year.

We are therefore seeking expressions of interest from community partners whether they would like to engage with Harlow’s 70th celebrations next year. We are hoping to develop a 70 style logo which could be shared with partners, and programme a number of events and activities from March next year through to October.

If your organisation is planning an event or activity next year, this could be included within the programme, and the 70 logo shared. In addition we are seeking funds for community groups to access in order to hold a special 70 themed event, or join with community partners in their activities. (70 singers, 70 performers, 70 runners, 70 volunteers, 70 minutes – the theme is endless!)

If this is of interest initially, please let me know. I will be co-ordinating a series of meetings soon to discuss ideas, and how we can bring them together to create a cohesive community programme of events.

For those of you that have already been in touch – thank you, I’ll be in contact soon.

Kind regards
